MICHIGAN CERAMIC ARTS ASSOCIATION PRESENTS:
MICHIGAN CERAMICS 2017 EXHIBITION

DETROIT, MICH. — The Michigan Ceramic Arts Association (MCAA) is pleased to present works by established and emerging ceramics artists at Michigan Ceramics 2017, from March 3 to April 1 at the College for Creative Studies (CCS) Valade Family Gallery in the A. Taubman Center for Design Education (485 West Milwaukee Avenue, in Midtown). A reception and awards presentation for exhibiting artists opens the show on Friday, March 3, from 5 to 8 p.m.

This biennial exhibition showcases the excellence and diversity of ceramic art from throughout Michigan and neighboring states. The Michigan Ceramics juried exhibition is one of few American exhibitions of its caliber operated entirely by artists.

Juried by art activist Richard Notkin (http://artaxis.org/richard-notkin/), the exhibition features $3000 in two awards categories, established (artists who have worked in clay for more than 10 years) and emerging (artists who have worked in clay for less than 10 years) ceramics artists. Juried established artists include Susan O’Connor, Alixandra Cunningham, Alec Smith, Ann Tubbs, Pamela Day, Mark Chatterley, James Adair, Tom Phardel, Benjamin Lambert, Craig Hinshaw, Julie Devers, Catherine Stasevich, John Albert Murphy, Brian Kakas, Larry Elliott, David Nelson, Marcia Polenberg, Greg Stahly, Firth MacMillan, Christine Laginess, Frank Fisher, Paul Kotula, Lynne Chytilo, Susanne Stephenson and Elizabeth Luri. Featured emerging artists are Sean Larson, Gina Pisto, E. Ingrid Tietz, Christopher Dean, Monica Wilson, Tom Szmrecsanyi, Sarah Olmsted, Steven Johnson, and Stephanie Galli.

Notkin will host a hands-on workshop in the CCS ceramics studio at the Kresge-Ford Building, 201 East Kirby, on Saturday, March 4. Space is limited and registration is required. Register at http://michclay.com/richard-notkin-workshop/.
