Jurors for the exhibition will be nationally-known ceramic artists Paul Briggs and Kyungmin Park. Briggs and Park, the event’s keynote speakers, will discuss and demonstrate their work on both days of the event.

All student participants will receive a one-year membership to MCAA and additional opportunities for other scholarship awards. Cash prizes will be awarded for expression in the sculptural, utilitarian, and figurative ceramics categories.

Deadlines:

  • Online submissions must be completed by 11:59pm on May 1, 2025
  • Artwork must be delivered by 12 noon on May 15, 2025

The Process

Step 1
Eligibility for student selections: students must be currently enrolled within 2024/2025 academic year. Works must be comprised of at least 30% ceramic materials and have been produced within the last 2 years.

MCAA requests that faculty members from each Michigan institution select artworks that represent their individual university/college program. Each school may select up to three (3) pieces from their undergraduate program. Schools with post baccalaureate and graduate programs may select up to an additional three (3) pieces to represent those programs.

Step 2
Once works are selected by a faculty representative(s), complete the online exhibition registration form. Required information: faculty representative name and contact details, one (1) jpeg max 1mb per selection, student(s) name, title, materials/process, program details, display requests(wall/pedestal), method of delivery, and contact info.

Step 3
All works must be delivered to Western Michigan University by Thursday May 15 at 12 noon. Works will be installed Thursday and will be on exhibit for two days during the Conference. Works must be collected or have return shipping arrangements by Saturday May 17th between 5pm and 6pm. Reasonable care will be taken in storage, moving, and display of the work. MCAA directors and volunteers, as well as the members and staff of WMU, will not be responsible for broken or stolen work or any damage that may occur.
